Commission Junction has various
advantages and disadvantages versus other affiliate
marketing companies.
Here's a summary, in the personal opinion of an affiliate website
creator:
Advantages:
- Commission Junction is the
market leader in affiliate marketing solutions.
- Commission Junction has
more merchants than any other affiliate marketing company
I have seen.
- The system at CJ.com is very grandiose and well-featured.
- There is a very nice
feature of a SCORE at the top of the screen showing you
how much money you have made so far.
- If you have people working
for you setting up affiliate stuff they can have
different security privileges.
Disadvantages:
- There are a lot of cookies
involved, and even TEXT LINKS have a built-in 1x1
transparent GIF with a cookie. I don't like cookies so I
have had to double-isolate all the links! (this has now
been solved! well done!)
- During the early part of
2002 there was an unfortunate tendency for merchants to
drop out of Commission Junction! They were in moult. (Thankfully the
depletion of the merchant-list appears to have stopped
now (2002/05) and so we are now signing up with more
merchants again! Oh good!)
- At Commission, even as late as 2011, there
was an unfortunate problem where an affiliate was declared to be "inactive"
and chucked off the network if after 6 months they had had NO SALES. That's
not clicks. It's sales. So, for example, a perfectly good affiliate
was thrown off Commission Junction twice in a year of recession even though the site was live and had got
people looking around window-shopping. Well I don't think that's fair, because
the affiliate was active, and could easily have started having sales at any time (and these would not have been tracked
/ credited to the affiliate). It's not the affiliate's
fault that there's a global recession.
Plus, if CJ wanted to get rid of truly inactive affiliates, they could easily measure
clicks/impressions over a period of months, and if those were zero, they could check the web address and see if
the site had been lost.
So, there's the honest truth
from my point of view. And, ye people at Commission Junction if
you're reading this, don't go thinking I'm knocking the company!
I still think that anyone considering going in for Affiliate
Marketing should consider signing up with Commission Junction.
They are one of the longest-lived names in affiliate marketing,
and they have an international approach. Also, some of the world's best
known companies have their affiliate programs at CJ.

I hope this Affiliate Recruiter
program is resumed soon! I think that having an Affiliate
Recruiter program is a
good idea, and I can tell you more about it here! Do you know, it
really is a shame that Commission Junction don't have an
affiliate recruiter program anymore. I could do really well
promoting them! Still, at least these Low Fuss Networks have affiliate
recruiter programs!!
