Outdoor Clothing for Women - reviewed by Extreme Pie
"Sportswear providers are
finally waking up to the fact that women love outdoor sports as
much as the men - and you are just as likely to find groups of
adrenaline loving females hiking up mountains, skiing down sheer
slopes and surfing the waves! There are so many action packed
sports and activities to enjoy nowadays - everything from rock
climbing to caving, skiing, windsurfing and fell running... and
even the more gentle pursuits such as rambling in the great
outdoors!
Women do have different needs
for outdoor clothing however - men`s pieces are designed for
different shapes. Women need extra fit around the chest and
support. They need narrower cuts and want clothes to look good as
well as function properly. Look for supportive sports bras,
flexible materials and stretch or wicking fabrics to keep cool.
Aim to build up layers that can come off as the temperature heats
up - get a good base layer in a breathable natural material such
as cotton with lycra, then layer with tshirts, zip up fleeces and
waterproof jackets depending on the time of year and your
activity. It`s wise to choose shoes specific to your activity as
well - trainers may be fine for pounding the pavements, but you`ll
want strong and supportive walking boots for trail hiking, steel
capped protective boots for caving or light and flexible gripper
trainers for climbing. Don`t forget accessories such as bags
either - look for a rucksack that will mould to your back and be
comfortable, with padded straps that are adjustable. Aim for one
with small pockets that are accessible and pack it with thermal
flasks, lunch boxes, travel snacks and a first aid kit / suncreen and
sunglasses etc. A note on sunglasses - make sure they offer
genuine UV protection, rather than picking a purely fashion pair!
It`s also wise to get a pair that fit snugly on your head, and
apply sun block to your nose, ears and other areas that might
catch the sun - even on grey days, sunburn is a strong
possibility when spending long periods of time outside.
Look at brands such as Prana, Kavu and Gramicci - as well as more mainstream sports clothing companies such as Nike, Helly Hansen and Adidas. Other good brands to try out include The North Face for technical and waterproof clothing, Salomon also do great walking shoes as do Helly Hanson and Patagonia.
Some companies offer women`s
outdoor clothing lines that are now as extensive as the men`s
ranges - Mountain Hardwear and Marmot also offer
various cuts, colours and shapes to suit different female shapes.
There`s some great online stores to browse through for your
outdoor clothing and many will offer you good tips on how to put
sports outfits together. Try for example roxy womens clothes for
some great options. With the right kit, you`ll be prepared to
really enjoy your outdoor sports, and can then concentrate on
having fun and keeping fit".
