SUEZ CANAL
A ship canal in Egypt linking the Mediterranean (Port Said) with the Red Sea (Port Suez). Built in 1864-1869 by Ferdinand de Lesseps, the Suez Canal allows ships a shortcut between Europe and The East, avoiding a very long round-trip round the tip of South Africa (Cape of Good Hope).

This page was created after it was found that a website which had been previously assumed to be the official Suez Canal website hadn't really got very much actual Suez Canal content!
The Suez Canal is a sea-level waterway, in contrast to the Panama Canal which has lock gates and an artificial lake.
